Direct Billing FAQ
q: Do you bill insurance companies?
a: Yes, but there are things you need to know.
-Please note if you are not set up for direct billing ahead of your appointment it may take approx 5 min of your appointment time to get set up. Once initial set up is done it will not take additional time in future appointments.
– The primary plan ALWAYS has to be billed first
-If your spouse plan is listed below and yours isn’t, you will need to self submit to your insurance.
-If your plan requires a RX and your spouse doesn’t, you still need to get the RX and submit to your plan first
-Unless you have 2 MB Blue Cross plans, I cannot bill two plans for one appointment
(example 80% for first plan and 20% for the second plan)
-If you run out of coverage for a primary plan, you will have to self submit for the secondary plan, regardless if it is one of my direct billing options. (except: MB Blue Cross, I am able to offer this service as a secondary plan)
Unfortunately other companies are not set up yet to cross benefit payments made from secondary plans yet, at this time I can only offer this for those with MB Blue Cross.
-It is your responsibility to inform me of your plan details as I cannot look this information up for you.
While I try to monitor coverage, I cannot know when you will max out your coverage, or if you require a Rx prior to your initial appointment.
Please always be prepared to pay for your appointment should there be any issues with your plan.
q: What companies do you bill?
a: The following companies
-Manitoba Blue Cross
– SOME Medavive Blue Cross plan
(please know this is a difficult company and I cannot guarantee this company until you’re at your first appointment)
-Canada Life (previously named/ included: Great West Life)
-Chamber of Commerce
-Manulife
-Claim Secure
-RWAM
-Maximum Benefits
-Desjardine
-I am willing to attempt other plans through the Telus Health Portal, but a credit card will need to be on file while I wait for the payment should an error occur.
-Any other plans I can issue you a receipt to be submitted for reimbursement.
q: Do you require a Rx for my insurance?
a: Maybe! While I don’t personally require one unless I’ve asked for specific medical clearance through our consultation, some insurance companies DO require a medical note to use their plans.
I suggest you check your coverage ahead of your appointment.
If plans require a Rx I cannot direct bill without a copy.
Once I have your note I can then bill your future appointments accordingly.
NOTE: Rx’s usually expire 1 year from written date. If you are unsure of when your Rx is due for renewal please inquire with me and I will look up your details.
Advance notification of expiration is not known/automatic.
q: My insurance plan didn’t go through but I can’t afford my appointment, can I reschedule?
a: No. This would still be considered a late cancellation. Direct billing is a courtesy provided and some situations are out of our control. If your insurance will not pay, or there are technical errors through the payment system, you are responsible for paying your therapist up front and we can issue a receipt that you can later submit for reimbursement. Unfortunately if you cannot pay that day, I will issue you an invoice to pay and you can rebook once this outstanding fee is settled.
q: Can you bill my insurance for my late/missed appointment fee?
a: No, this is considered fraud as insurance companies do not cover late fees or missed appointment fees. We can still give you a receipt for paying the fee, but it will be ineligible for reimbursement
q: If I run out of my insurance, can I use my spouse/child’s coverage?
a: No, this is considered fraud as insurance companies have offered the assistance for each family member in preventative care or injury. Each appointment must be billed correctly for the person in attendance on that exact date of service.
Payment Methods:
I can accept all major methods of payment:
Cash, Debit, E-transfer, Credit Card.
A receipt is always provided to you
q: Is tipping normal or expected?
a: This is a personal choice, but not expected. For those coming with pain and treat their sessions like physio or chiro, tipping would not be expected. If you are choosing to come for relaxation and would do so like a nail or hair appointment, then the choice is yours.
My machine is not set up for auto tipping prompts. You may leave cash on the table or request to add one but please know I do not expect them. Rebooking & referrals mean more ❤
